Teaching Interests

I am interested in helping students understand the person who becomes a patient in a physical therapy setting. I believe that effective care is not only knowing what to do, but how to interact with patients. This is a two-fold process and involves understanding yourself as therapist and the person who is your patient.  My involvement in the psychosocial courses, Psychosocial Aspects of Human Behavior 1 and 2, emphasize these aspects of care.  I am also involved in teaching in the clinical courses: Clinical Management of Patients with Musculoskeletal Dysfunction 1 and 2, Clinical Management of Patients with Lymphatic and Integumentary Dysfunction, Clinical Management of Patients with Neurologic Dysfunction 1, and in the basic Examination and Evaluation 1.

Research Interests

Breast Cancer and Exercise, Risk factors for development of Lymphedema, Measurement of Lymphedema, Cultural Competence in Physical Therapy Education.
