A Steering Committee–elected by women faculty members–directs and coordinates the activities of the WFO. The voting members of the Steering Committee number, at minimum, 12 individuals and include: - Three women faculty representatives from the attending staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH).
- Two women faculty representatives from the attending staffs of the other McGaw Medical Center institutions: VA Chicago Health Care System–Lakeside Division, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Children's Memorial Hospital, and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare.
- Two women faculty members from private practice.
- Two women faculty representatives from the basic science departments.
- One female medical school research faculty member.
- One female at-large member.
- One female Northwestern medical student member, appointed to the WFO steering committee via the Office of Student Affairs and medical school's Student Senate nomination. This student is usually a member of the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) and serves as the WFO liaison to AMWA.
The immediate past chair of the WFO Steering Committee serves on the Steering Committee for at least one year as a non-elected 13th voting member.
The Steering Committee elects one of its members to serve for a two-year, renewable term as president of the WFO and chair of the Steering Committee. A member is also elected by the Steering Committee to serve as vice chair.
Steering Committee meetings are held monthly and are open to all women faculty members, students, and trainees at the medical school and hospital(s) including those in the GME, PhD, and MSTP programs. Residents, fellows, and members of other women's organizations in the Northwestern system also may attend the meetings.
The Steering Committee has an established formal liaison relationship with the Medical Faculty Senate Council and a designated member represents the WFO in the Senate. The chair of the Steering Committee is the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) WFO representative. | |
