Housing

Rotations are offered at 3 different locations:

Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago campus)– in the heart of downtown Chicago, near the Water Tower. Neighborhoods that are within walking distance to Northwestern’s Chicago campus and Northwestern Memorial Hospital are Streeterville, Gold Coast, River North and the Magnificent Mile.

Children's Memorial Hospital (Lincoln Park campus)– several miles north of the Chicago campus. There is a Northwestern University McGaw shuttle from the Chicago campus to Children's Memorial Hospital. Tickets may be purchased from the parking office. (see shuttle information below)

Evanston Hospital (Evanston campus)– 14 miles north of Chicago in the city of Evanston. The Northwestern undergraduate campus is located in Evanston.


On-campus housing is available through the Graduate Housing department. Other resources are listed below. (Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine provides the resources below as a guide for short-term housing. We do not endorse any of the options listed below).

Chicago Campus

There are no discounted parking rates for visiting students.
Please contact the garages directly to ask about rates. See below for contact numbers.

Evanston Hospital

Parking at Evanston is free of charge to visiting students. There is a lot across the street from the hospital at 1000 Central which is the medical office building that connects to the hospital. Permits may be obtained from your department.

Northwestern University Shuttles

There are several shuttles available for your use.

Intercampus shuttle: This shuttle runs back and forth from the Evanston campus to the Chicago campus is available to visiting students at no cost. This shuttle can only be accessed with a WildCARD. Please see the Visiting Student Coordinator to make arrangements. 

McGaw Shuttle: This is a shuttle bus that runs from Feinberg School of Medicine to Childrens' Memorial Hospital and vice versa. Shuttle ticket required. Tickets are available for purchase from the Parking office, room 100, located on the Chicago campus in Abbott Hall (710 North Lakeshore Drive).

Train station shuttle: Visiting students may purchase tickets from the Parking office, room 100, located on the Chicago campus in Abbott Hall (710 North Lakeshore Drive).

The RTA System
The combined operations of the RTA's three Service Boards -- the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra and Pace, constitutes the second-largest rapid transit and rail system in North America and the nation's third-largest bus system.

RTA Transit Information (TIC) is a free telephone service that will provide you with transit times, directions and connections to anywhere in the six-county service area by dialing direct to 312/836-7000, city or suburbs (TTY 312-836-4949).

Note: For the fastest and most efficient service, contact the TIC before 8 a.m. and after 7 p.m. if possible. The TIC operates daily from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
