Eduation and Training

Faculty in the Department of Family Medicine embrace the Feinberg School of Medicine’s dynamic academic mission and are actively involved in medical student and resident education.  In addition to teaching preclinical courses at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Department faculty members organize and supervise third- and fourth-year clerkships for medical students.

The Department also offers a three-year Family Medicine Residency Training Program based at Northwestern’s clinical affiliate Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, which comprises Evanston, Glenbrook, and Highland Park Hospitals.  This rigorous training provides a solid combination of clinical and educational experiences, ranging from the 400-bed tertiary care center at Evanston Hospital, to the community-based Glenbrook and Highland Park Hospitals.

The residency program is located in Glenview, IL. For more information, please contact the program director at (847) 657-1840.

The Department works closely with the Family Medicine Interest Group, which is led by the Feinberg School of Medicine students.  The goal of this group is to build awareness about the specialty of family medicine and the skills and training required to become a family medicine physician.  Through the Family Medicine Interest Group, students have access and exposure to community clinics, as well as participate in lectures and programs that focus on the practice of family medicine.
