Overview

The Biostatistics Collaboration Center (BCC) is a new Biostatistics resource that was made available to researchers at the Feinberg School of Medicine in June 2004.  It is the result of a new initiative by the Dean’s Office, the Dean’s Research Council, and the Department of Preventive Medicine.  The BCC is established to promote the highest standard in research and education, confirming our collective commitment to providing the highest quality of clinical research services.

Our mission is to conduct high quality innovative research in collaboration with faculty investigators and to establish the BCC as a recognized resource of biostatistical science.  We are conducting methodological research to enhance the existing knowledge in statistics and collaborative research to assist clinical researchers in making the best use of their resources through efficient study design and statistical analysis. The BCC will provide consulting services on statistics, programming and data management to any individual or organization involved with medical research, and offer when needed, workshops and seminars on statistical methodology. We are striving for excellence in research, service and education.

The BCC provides statistical support and expert consultation for the planning, design, development and execution of studies, and the analysis and interpretation of data, as well as the preparation of reports and manuscripts for basic science, clinical and epidemiologic research projects.

The BCC is headed by Dr. Jenny Huang. Faculty biostatisticians within the Department of Preventive Medicine are available to serve as research collaborators and statistical consultants when needed. Master-level statistical analysts and programmers work with the faculty biostatistician to provide programming and data management support.  The BCC is actively involved in research projects ranging from one-time consultations to long-term collaborative research. We provide consultations in the following three areas:

        Statistical Consultation
        Programming Consultation
        Data Management Consultation

Co-authorship is generally expected on studies where substantive input on the design or analysis is provided. Please visit FAQs & Policies for more details.

One-hour initial consultation to determine the needs of the investigator is available at no charge.  Free consultation for grant application is also provided when the grant support for biostatistical effort requested by the BCC can be included in the grant submission. Beyond these no-charge services, if one wishes to utilize the statistical consulting, programming and data management support provided by the BCC, the investigator will be charged on an hourly basis and billed monthly until the completion of the project. Rates for consultation will vary depending on whether the work is carried out by a faculty member or a statistical analyst, and depending on whether the work is conducted for an internal (Feinberg School of Medicine) or external client.
