In its 2006 survey of deans and senior faculty members at the nation's 125 medical schools, US News & World Report ranked Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine 20th among research-intensive medical schools. NIH research ranking rose from 37 to 34.The Department of Anesthesiology has an active research program with extensive extramural support. Faculty investigators conduct clinical and basic science studies focusing on cutting edge topics in anesthesiology. Residents are encouraged to participate in the department's research program benefiting from the one-on-one mentoring afforded by our senior faculty investigators. Each year our residents and faculty present their findings at national scientific meetings. Manuscripts from these studies are published in prominent anesthesiology journals. Research- Basic Science
