Student Programs

The Alumni Association sponsors a number of programs for Northwestern's medical students.

During ORIENTATION WEEK the Alumni Association welcomes incoming medical students through several programs. The foremost event is a dinner: administrators and alumni faculty members volunteer to host a group of students in their homes or at restaurants. One of the highest-rated student events of the week, the dinners provide an opportunity for alumni and administrators to welcome students and answer questions in a comfortable social setting.

The ROLL CALL is an annual tradition serving a continental breakfast to first- and second-year medical students before their exams 12 times a year.

The HOST (HELP OUR STUDENTS TRAVEL) PROGRAM is a service provided by alumni to senior medical students and physicians completing their residencies at Northwestern. Alumni from around the country provide assistance and advice as these students travel to interview for residencies or residents interview for positions.

IN VIVO, the annual medical school student musical comedy review, is currently approaching its 25th year. The Office of Alumni Relations proudly sponsors the announcement mailing to area alumni and a Friday night reception.

The Northwestern University Medical Alumni Association and the Office of Development at the medical school are pleased to present an annual STUDENT SERVICE RECOGNITION AWARD, as of 2005, to be awarded each year to up two graduating medical students in recognition of his/her outstanding service to the Feinberg School of Medicine and/or the Medical Alumni Association. Service is defined as volunteer efforts on behalf of the student's class, Student Senate, any of the approved student organizations, the students' Silent Auction, the Medical Alumni Association, or other Feinberg School-related activity.

A cash award of $1,000 will be presented to each recipient at the Graduation Luncheon by the Alumni Association president and will be announced during commencement as the recipient receives his/her degree the next day.

Nominations by the Offices of Admissions, Alumni Relations, Development, Medical Education, Minority and Cultural Affairs, and Student Programs and Professional Development will be submitted to the Executive Committee of the Medical Alumni Association National Board for their final selection. Nominations will include a brief paragraph statement of the nominee's service and will be submitted to the Alumni Office by the end of April.

The Office of Alumni Relations celebrates GRADUATION by hosting a luncheon for the graduates on the day before graduation. Immediately following the official graduation ceremony, is a reception co-sponsored by the Office of Alumni.
