The current enrollment of nontraditional medical students at the Feinberg School is about 15 percent. Nontraditional students are generally defined as those who have taken two or more years off between undergraduate studies and matriculation to medical school. We are particularly proud that the Entering Class of 2007 contains 40 (24 percent) nontraditional students with ages that range between 24 and 38. Sixteen have earned advanced degrees. One holds a Doctorate in Neuroscience. Six have earned Masters in Science and 4 others a Masters of Public Health degree. The remaining 5 hold Masters degrees in English, Education, Philosophy, and Linguistics. Our entering nontraditional students have pursued diverse interests that range from working as a business consultant to teaching high school science in the inner city to on-site research and writing of travel guides to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. All share a passion to pursue medicine in this, the next phase of their lives. |
